Happiness, Fulfilment & Contentment in Retirement...

Here are my top 3 key takeaways from my brilliant conversation on the Humans vs Retirement Podcast with Neil Bage...

1. Finding new purpose and passion.

One of the biggest challenges of retirement is the sudden lack of purpose. Many people spend the majority of their lives working and having a purpose, and when that purpose is gone, it can be difficult to adjust. It is important to find new purpose, whether it is through volunteer work, hobbies, or other activities. It is important to remember that retirement does not mean the end of purpose, but rather a new beginning. This need for purpose and identity can be hard-wired into the human brain, but it can also be difficult to process in the face of modern retirement.

Modern retirement is a relatively new concept, with the first social payments being made in Germany in the late 1800s. Retirement is a major thing, but it is also a human invention. This means that the human brain must process it in a way that goes against evolutionary conversations. It is not surprising that people struggle to make important decisions when it comes to their futures and retirement.

It is important to be conscious of what is going on inside the human brain. The human brain is constantly receiving inputs from the world around us, and these inputs can shape our reality. It is important to be aware of the inputs that we are receiving and to make sure that we are making decisions that are right for us.

2. Explore life stories.

Exploring life stories is an important step in planning for a happy and fulfilling retirement. By taking the time to reflect on our life stories and to consider what activities bring us joy, we can begin to build a plan that is tailored to our individual needs and desires.

One way to explore life stories is to reflect on our past experiences. What activities did we enjoy in our younger years that we could still find pleasure in today? What places bring us a sense of peace and joy? What relationships have been meaningful to us in the past and how can we continue to nurture them? Taking the time to reflect can help us to identify activities and relationships that could bring us joy and contentment.

Another way to explore life stories is to talk to people who have already retired. By talking to people who have already gone through the process, we can learn about their experiences and gain insight into what activities, places, and relationships could bring us joy and contentment. We can also learn about the challenges that they faced and the strategies that they used to overcome them.

Exploring life stories is an important part of the retirement planning process. By taking the time to reflect on our life stories and to consider what activities, places, and relationships bring us joy and contentment, we can begin to develop a plan for that is tailored to our individual needs and desires.

3. Live life with joy.

The key to living a life of joy is to understand what makes us happy and to spend our money on those things. If you want to be happy in life, find out what makes you happy and spend your money on that. This is a simple but powerful statement. We all have different things that make us happy, and it is important to recognise those things and to make sure that we are spending our money on them.

We should be acutely aware of our environment. We can easily be led by peer pressure and be influenced by our surroundings. If we want to make positive decisions and take positive actions, then it is important to be mindful of our environment and to make sure that it is in line with our values.

We should all recognise that life is a journey and it’s important to enjoy the ride. We should not be afraid to take risks and to pursue our dreams. We should also be aware of our own emotions and be mindful of our own behaviours, as these can have a negative or positive outcome depending on how we use them.

By understanding our own emotions and behaviours, we can make sure that we are living life with joy. We should be aware of our environment and make sure that it’s in line with our values and most importantly we should identify the things that make us happy and spend our money and time on that!. By doing these things, we can ensure that we are living life with joy and that we are able to make the most of this exciting next phase of our lives.
